Position: Mortgage Loan Officer

Location: Newberg. Oregon

Hours Per Week: Full Time - 40

Compensation:   Base Pay + Overtime- Non commissioned

Position Summary: Under the direction of the Chief Credit Officer, is responsible for the origination of one to four single family residence loans including fixed rate mortgages & home equity products. To the greatest extent possible, other products and services will be cross-sold to clients to support a full service banking relationship philosophy. This individual should use their outside contacts including realtors, builders and other referral sources to generate loan activity. This position will be expected to cultivate new sources of business on an ongoing basis. Additionally, the position is expected to manage the loan process accurately, in an orderly manner and in compliance with bank policy & bank regulations. The right candidate will be active in the community through service organization(s) or other charitable activity.

Required work experience and abilities:
Residential Mortgage Officers possess strong sales skills in combination with knowledge of real estate loan products and strong communication skills which allow the incumbent to work with a broad range of customers. Develop and maintain a high degree of visibility for First Federal in the marketplace by performing external/outside residential mortgage origination activities with an emphasis on self-sourced business.

Essential Functions:
• Engages in business development activities and solicitation of new business, actively involved in instilling and maintaining a positive sales environment.

• Interviews prospective applicants and requests specified information related to loan or credit application; corresponds or re-interviews applicants to resolve questions regarding application information.

• Performs prequalification assessment and analysis of financial condition and risk of financing requests within framework of Association credit culture and current economic and industry trends.

• Gathers and analyzes all information necessary to present a financing request to underwriters & senior management for approval; meets with existing and potential customers; visiting sites of loans; presents terms and conditions; refers and recommends acceptance to Senior Management.

• Responsible for evaluating credit worthiness and preparing file for underwriting that represents the borrowers' ability to qualify for a mortgage loan in the amount requested with the collateral desired. Ability to submit complete loan application packages.

• Coordinates processing of approved loans; ensures loans are processed according to agreement, customer needs and conform to Bank lending policies; obtains sufficient information and/or documentation from customers; solves problems relative to processing and servicing of loans within his or her portfolio; approves loan disbursement sin accordance with agreements.

• Stays current with the bank's residential loan products and programs.

• Keeps the loan customer informed on a timely basis as to the progress/status of an active loan. Maintains strong communication with the processing team and assists in obtaining needed information as quickly as possible in order for timely and efficient processing of loan documents.

• Develop, implements and monitors sales activities to achieve and exceed loan origination goals including developing business by building relationships with Realtors, builders, accountants, financial planners, community participation etc.

• Establishes professional rapport with customers in order to match mortgage products with customer needs.

• Promptly conducts follow-up activities in response to internal referrals.

• Regular and reliable attendance

Minimum Qualifications:

• Formal college level training/education in business desirable. 2+ years of successful external/outside residential mortgage origination experience with an emphasis on self-sourced business.  Newberg market experience preferred.

• Proven sales experience with the ability to meet production standards set for individual production.

• Complete familiarity with FNMA/FHLMC guidelines and understanding of all facets involved in real estate transactions.

• Good written, electronic and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to appropriately and tactfully handle confidential information.

• Great telephone etiquette.

• Good organizational and project tracking skills.

• Successful financial services experience, preferably in a bank setting desired.

• Effective customer service techniques and good written and verbal communication skills. Solid match skills and attention to detail.

• Ability to work well with other loan officers, support staff, and management, as well as the ability to effectively deal with difficult customer situations and/or problem accounts.

• Ability to meet bonding requirements for employment, have good credit and pass a criminal background check, drug screen and NMLS licensing requirements shown below.

Licensing Requirement: Candidates who are placed in this job role will be required to 1) register with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS) & Registry and complete a MU4R filing notice, 2) provide fingerprints and 3) to authorize a criminal background screen through the Registry in compliance with the Secure and Fair Enforcement for Mortgage Licensing Act of 2008 (S.A.F.E. Act). First Federal will facilitate the individual registration (or transfer of an existing registration) and pay all applicable registration fees.

• Proof of valid state drivers license and auto insurance.

Physical Requirements:
• Ability to clearly speak, hear, see and communicate with our customers
• Ability to stand or sit for up to four hours at a time
• Ability to drive a motor vehicle.
